Tattoos: Four-leaf clover on top of right foot; rose vine w/skull on side of right leg; Stomach – “Never Give Up” above naval; “Courage” spelled lengthwise on right side & corvette flags above left hip. Each bicep has a wing above each elbow & a 5-pointed star below each elbow. Each upper inner arm has a 4-pointed star. Each inner wrist has black & red pin stripes. Left outer arm has Yin symbol w/dead fish & word “Death”; Cry Later theatrical face. Right outer arm has light Yang symbol w/live fish & word Life; Laugh Now theatrical face; tattoo gun.

Scars/Piercings/Unique Marks: Derek has a scar on right inner wrist and left hip from surgery. (bone taken from left hip to repair right wrist)

Other: Vehicle is also missing. A white 1992 or 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck. License tag may be 442-HHJ and does not match the vehicle.

Circumstance: Derek was last seen in Powell, Tennessee on May 12, 2010. He was visiting a female friend there and left her home at about midnight. A few minutes later she called him on his cellular phone and they talked for several minutes before Funk ended the conversation, saying he was tired and needed to concentrate on driving. He never arrived at his own home fifteen miles away, on Coffman Street in south Knoxville, Tennessee. He worked for the East Tennessee Railroad in Oak Ridge, Tennessee at the time of his disappearance, and was reported missing after he didn’t show up for work. His white 1992 or 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck has not been found. License plate could be tag number 422-HHJ. His license tag does not match his vehicle. Derek was carrying a cell phone and bank cards at the time of his disappearance, but his cellular phone is turned off and there hasn’t been any activity on the cards. He is a 2009 graduate of Oak Ridge High School and had worked as a welder for East Tennessee Railcar Services for two years. He moved to Knoxville the month before his disappearance; he was renting a house with an option to buy.
