Tuscaloosa police Sgt. Brent Blankley says officers have been searching for a missing teen.
Police say Destiny Schaetzle, 13, was reported missing on Sunday, July 27. She was last seen at her home in the 3700 block of 64th Street Northeast, in the North Park subdivision.
It is believed that Schaetzle ran away but police are concerned after no contact from in her four days.
"I want people to know we love her. We really want her home. We all miss her a lot," her mother, Lindsay Schaetzle, said.
Lindsay Schaetzle said the family was sitting down to dinner on Sunday when they realized Schaetzle wasn't home.
"We noticed Desti was missing when we went to get everyone for dinner. She was nowhere in the house. And after searching the house we figured she had gone out the back door and so we searched the yard and searched the neighborhood and talked to everybody and nobody's seen her," Lindsay Schaetzle said.
Schaetzle believed her daughter may have been hiding in the wooded around the neighborhood. Police used helicopters to search the wooded area, but have not yet found her.
She's described as looking younger than her age of 13, with sandy blonde, shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.
Her family says she was last seen wearing a light blue shirt with a flag on it, Umbros and crimson and white polka dot flipflops with her hair in a pony tail.
On Tuesday afternoon, several Tuscaloosa officers searched by air and on foot in the area of the neighborhood. Officers also went door-to-door talking to neighbors.
Police plan to conduct a large scale search on Wednesday, which will begin in the morning.
"Please pray for her. We miss her very badly. It's been way too long," her mom said.
Family friends are posting updates on the Facebook Page "Prayers for Desti."
