r convicted of possessing child pornography is now on the run and wanted by federal authorities.
James Michael Cameron, 50, of Rome, formerly of Hallowell, is being hunted by the U.S. Marshals Service and law enforcement nationwide.
Cameron was released from federal prison pending an appeal of his case. The U.S. Marshals Service says he was on a court-ordered electronic monitoring device but cut the monitor off and disappeared on November 14, 2012.
That's the same day a federal appeals court upheld some of the convictions against Cameron, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
He became the target of an investigation after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported Yahoo had found multiple images of child pornography in a Yahoo! account belonging to Cameron's wife.
Federal authorities say Cameron was last seen in Hallowell driving a Tan 1999 Audi A6, with a Maine license plate of 2333PL. He is 6’ tall, weighs 230 lbs., with brown hair and blue eyes. His birthdate is 6/05/1962.
