UPDATE FOUND SAFE: Lincoln police found a teenager Wednesday night, a day after
he went missing.
Sixteen-year-old Kieran Richey left his home near 20th and Van Dorn
streets Tuesday planning to go to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
campus to use a computer, according to a news release from the Lincoln
Police Department.
He failed to return home as expected at 10
p.m. but did call shortly after midnight, saying his cellphone battery
had died and he lost track of time.
That was the last family
members heard of him until 8:40 p.m. Wednesday when police found him
sitting outside an apartment building at 25th and J streets. Richey's
mother picked him up from that location, Lincoln Police Capt. Jim
Davidsaver said.
A tip led officers to the boy, said Davidsaver, who did not know what the teen spent the day doing.
Richey has Asperger Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism often
characterized by social awkwardness, repetitive behavior and obsession
with certain topics.
