9/29/2012: URGENT! Missing Diabetic Teen: Fremont, Nebraska: Family, friends an
d law enforcement authorities are searching for a missing Fremont teen who may be in need of medical attention. Brandon R. Kamphaus, 16, who has Type 1 diabetes, was reported missing on Friday, according to the Fremont Police Department.
He left for Fremont High School in the morning, but never arrived, said Chief Deputy Jeff Elliott. The teen's vehicle later was found about eight blocks from his home in an uninhabited area close to woods and agricultural fields, Elliott said.
A search of the area near Kamphaus' abandoned vehicle was underway this morning, he said.
Elliott said there was no reason to believe Kamphaus is a runaway, but there is also no evidence of foul play.
Kamphaus is described by police as being five-feet 11-inches, 160 pounds, with blonde hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information was urged to call Fremont police at 402-727-2677 or the Nebraska Missing Persons Information Clearinghouse toll free at 1-877-441-LOST (1-877-441-5678).
