According to search warrants, Zinah told officers she did not even have a son. She later recanted and said her son was in Atlanta. Three days later, she told investigators her son was with a man named Ernest Robinson. Officers researched that claim and discovered the man doesn't exist.
On Monady, Zinah took investigators to an apartment complex where she said she dropped off her son. She then told officers she didn't remember the apartment number, or where the apartment was located within the complex.
"She's not being honest about the stories she's telling us," said Chief Scott.
On December 30th, police officers searched Zinah's house, which she shared with her mother. They took out items containing Amir's DNA.
On Wednesday, police returned to the house with a new search warrant and a cadaver dog. They searched the perimeter of the house.
"We should have heard something by now," said Chief Scott.
Police believe Amir could be in Atlanta, Rock Hill, or Charlotte. The FBI is helping them follow through on tips.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives haven't been asked to help with this case yet.
Zinah went to Winthrop University, and Rock Hill police have been keeping in touch with Columbia investigators.
Rock Hill officers have been following up on tips and also checking local hospitals.
Eyewitness News spoke to Amir's grandmother, Jocelyn Jennings, on the phone Thursday afternoon. She said the family is preparing to make a statement soon.
