SHERMAN, TX -- Authorities are working to positively identify the human remains found in Sherman Saturday evening.

UPDATE BODY FOUND: (no positive id yet, I'm just a fellow South Dakotan praying for whoevers family this person belongs to) The FBI is investigating the discovery of a body in Fort Thompson, which is believed to missing teenager Shauntae Marks.

Two teenage boys walking along a sandbar on the outskirts of town found the body Friday. An autopsy is needed to confirm the identity, but many in the com

munity believe the body is that of the missing teenager. Marks disappeared in early May.

A Fort Thompson police officer confirmed the discovery of the body, but couldn't say what condition the body was in or how long it had been there. Marks' aunt tells KSFY News it appears the body had been in the sandbar for some time. Family members also say the body was taken to Rapid City for an autopsy.

Marks was reported missing on May 4 and believed to be endangered. The early missing persons report said she was distraught over a relationship and had made threats to harm herself. A city-wide search was conducted immediately following her disappearance. Marks' family searched for months, hoping to find the teen in another part of the state.

Marks would be a 10th grader this school year. Her family said she lived to draw and wanted to be an artist.
