TENNESSEE: 2 children Missing under suspicious circumstances, bodies not found in fire

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has issued an Endangered Child Alert for the Bedford County Sheriff's Office for 9-year old Chloie Leverette and 7-year old Gage Daniel. The children were last seen on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at approximately 6:30 p.m. by a neighbor. Chloie and Gage lived with their grandparents at 730 Kingdom Road, Unionville, Tennessee. That home was destroyed by fire on Sunday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. According to State Bomb and Arson investigators, the children were not victims of the fire and their whereabouts are unknown at this time. If you have any information concerning the current whereabouts of Chloie and Gage, please contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.

Two children initially believed to have perished in a Tennessee farmhouse fire along with their step-grandparents are now considered missing and perhaps in danger, investigators said on Wednesday.

TBI spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the district attorney asked the agency to investigate the fatal fire and the whereabouts of the children. She said there is no evidence yet that the children were not in the house, but investigators are speaking with family members, friends and people at the children’s school.

‘‘Under an abundance of caution we decided to issue an endangered child alert for the two children if they are not in fact found in the fire,’’ Helm said.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said in a statement that it has concluded ‘‘that there are no remains of the two children in the structure. The children’s location at this time is unknown.’’

Helm said the TBI issued the endangered alert because, ‘‘as time moves on, we don’t want to miss our opportunity to locate them if they were not in the house.’’

The Bedford County sheriff said investigators did find the remains of 72-year-old Leon ‘‘Bubba’’ McClaran and his 70-year-old wife, Molli McClaran.

Helm confirmed that the remains of two people and an animal were recovered in the house, but she said the medical examiner would have to positively identify those remains.

Sheriff Randall Boyce originally said Monday that investigators thought they found three bodies in the home, but one of the remains turned out to be those of a dog.

Family members told The Associated Press that the McClarans were raising their step-grandchildren because they needed a home and described them as generous people who loved their family. Relatives of the McClarans said the girl also used the last name Pope.

Someone passing by the farm saw the home enveloped in flames and called for help.

Law enforcement agents used cadaver dogs to search through the rubble for the remaining bodies. Family members drew a layout of the home for authorities to show the bedrooms.

The fire was very intense and quickly collapsed the walls of the house. Firefighters spent hours battling the blaze and it was still smoldering Monday morning as they searched for the bodies.

Helm said TBI is not investigating the cause of the fire because that is the responsibility of the state fire marshal’s office.

Randolph’s mother reported her missing on Monday. The teen’s mother has been trying to reach her via cell phone since the youth left.

Missing From Picuayne, Mississippi Since September 17, 2012 Please Help Find Brailynne Corr

Brailynne Corr graduated from Ridgeview High in 2008, recently graduated from UCF and is now missing from Mississippi.

She went to live with her parents in Mississippi and started a job a month ago at a hospital in Jackson. She's been missing now for 10 days.

One Jacksonville family who has known her since childhood is trying to help find her from their home here on the First Coast.

Lou Anne McCormick has spent hours on Facebook of late, trying to spread the word about Corr.

Brailynne and her daughter Mallory were friends throughout elementary and junior high in Orange Park. They continued to keep in touch.

"I can't imagine what she is going through right now, my daughter's friend, I just want to help the family," said McCormick.

McCormick has been in touch with Corr's father in Mississippi, Dave Corr.

"He is just distraught, driving on the roads of Mississippi looking for her."

Corr told First Coast news that he has gone to several places in Mississippi where his daughter was known to be, but he has had no luck finding her.

McCormick convinced him to open an account at Regions Bank in Brandon, Mississippi. She wants to raise money through Facebook to help the family hire a private investigator.

"I thought what would I do, I would hire someone besides local police to help me find my daughter, that's how I'd go about it."

Corr told her parents she was going to Hattiesburg, Mississippi on September 15th to visit friends. While she did go to Hattiesburg, she did not visit anyone.

She was last seen two days later on the 17th at a Walmart in Picuayne, Miss., 3 hours away.

"She'd gone to Walmart, gone in bought gum, then bought gas and went inside again to get bottled water," said McCormick.
That was 10 days ago.

No signs of her since, no evidence of using her credit card.

"A really good girl about checking in with Mom and Dad constantly, totally out of character for her," McCormick remarked.

She and her daughter, Mallory Williams, plan to pass out posters in the Orange Park area in hopes of getting some clues to Corr's whereabouts.

"If we put out the posters and she did communicate with someone in the Orange Park area, anyone prior to going missing, they may have some idea where she might be."

Her father asks that if anyone happens to see her in the area, to stop her and call authorities, likewise if they happen to hear from Corr.

Brandon Rogers is a UNF student who dated Corr for several years. He has started the Facebook page "Find Brailynne"

He's concerned also, saying this is not like her, describing her as a very smart girl, graduating with a degree in molecular science and microbiology.

Detective Chris Ainsworth in Mississippi said she is on the National Missing Persons List, but at this point he has no solid reason to suspect foul play.

Please share her flyer with your friends. A online flyer is a excellent way to get the word out about a Missing Person. With todays technology it can be viewed literally anywhere, computers, Ipads, Cell phones, forwarded, downloaded and printed, etc. You can also tag your friends to the flyer which is another good way to spread the word quickly about a missing person, (you must "Like" the page it's uploaded on before it will let you tag it).

http://www.pjstar.com/news/x1238770564/Mom-charged-with-dumping-Toulon-infant?zc_p=0&img=2

9/28/2012: Stark County, Illinois: The mother of 3-week-old Mia Thompson dumped her infant Thursday in a ditch in a remote area outside town, according to charges filed Friday morning.

Kendra Meaker, 19, of Toulon “willingly caused the life of (her daughter) to be endangered” by abandoning the baby alongside a rural road for nearly 12 hours, the charges allege. Further, she is accused of lying to police about the infant’s whereabouts while her daughter went unattended and without food or water between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday.

Meaker was charged in Stark County Circuit Court Friday morning with obstruction of justice, a Class 4 felony punishable by one to three years in prison; and endangering the life or health of a child, a Class A misdemeanor carrying a maximum jail term of one year. Bond was set at $100,000, meaning she would have to post $10,000 to be released from custody. Her next court appearance is set for Oct. 12.

Mia was being cared for Friday at an unspecified hospital, while her 11-month-old sister, Mercedes, was with relatives, according to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Mia was reported missing in an Amber Alert on Thursday morning. Meaker told police she had stopped at the Toulon post office about 8:10 a.m. to mail a package and got out of the car, leaving behind Mia and Mercedes. Meaker told police that she had riven drove away from the post office and did not notice Mia was missing until later; Mercedes remained in the car.

Sheriff Jimmie Dison, testifying at Friday's court hearing, said he doubted Meaker’s story from the beginning, when she came to his office to file a report.

“I didn’t believe her” when she denied having done something with her baby, Dison said later outside court. But with no proof of his suspicions and with an infant missing, he had no choice but to request the Amber Alert.

“I had to,” Dison said. “What I believed didn’t matter.”

When questioned later by Illinois State Police and FBI investigators, Meaker eventually changed her story and admitted she had left the infant along a rural road, Dison said.

Meaker, wearing standard orange jail attire, said nothing during her brief court appearance Friday except to answer questions from Circuit Judge Stuart Borden determining whether she qualified for a public defender. She told him she had no job and no income.

Meaker has been living with her parents, Ken and Rita Meaker in Toulon, along with Mia and Mercedes, and Timothy Thompson, the father of both children.

Thompson and Ken Meaker were among several family members who attended the court hearing, but they did not comment except in a brief group statement read by a family spokeswoman.

“This has been a hellish 24 hours that our family has endured.” said Sandy Hollingsworth of Marseilles, a maternal aunt of the defendant and great-aunt of Mia.

According to charges filed Friday, Meaker drove outside Toulon to county roads 700 North and 900 East, where she took the girl from the car and lay her on roadside gravel.

Nearly a half-day later, during which time scores of volunteers and police combed the area, she was found by a pair of volunteer searchers who stopped in the remote site, got out of their vehicle and heard her wailing. the retrieved the baby and brought her to nearby emergency workers.

Stark County State’s Attorney James Owens declined to discuss the charges further, including Meaker’s motivation. He said he does not know if anyone else might be charged.
