REDDING, Calif. -- The Redding man convicted of beating his 8-year old son with a baseball bat has been sentenced to life in prison. Geoffrey Kelly, 53, of Redding, plead no contest to premeditated attempted murder this morning in Shasta County Court. On January 5, 2011, Kelly attacked his son with an aluminum baseball bat as the boy slept. Kelly is due back in court next Thursday for a follow-up hearing to determine what credit he will receive for time served.

I called the police station originally handling the case and they told me it's been turned over to the homicide detectives 313-596-2260. I called and asked what the latest details were in the case and was told they could not discuss the case since it's an ongoing investigation. However when asked if a warrant has been issued I was referred to 313-224-5777 as the Prosecutors office. When I called them they have referred me to another division at the Prosecutors office where I have left a message for a returned call.

    Linda Canham No its not they have this lead for weeks that her little body was in that landfill. Stop wasting time and get that little girl if you really believe thats where she is. By the time they get there its going to be so hard to find anything. UGH i hate the system and how it works. It protects the guilty 75% of the time and 75% of the time the innocent are portrayed as guilty because they are looking in the wrong place. Not saying this mother is innocent cause lord knows I feel she did bitch wont take a lie detector test she did it!!!! But either way its protecting the guilty.     Shelia Bradley Smith That may or may not be true, but I spoke to a black woman at the department a week and a half ago. I understood the hazard, but I did tell her that from experience this should not take this long. It doesn't matter what race any child is, but to leave her little body there and not get it to hopefully preserve evidence is just pure ignorance on their behalf.
