This is so sad. please teach your children to swim.

Chicago's beaches officially opened Friday, a sunny and warm day that again made clear why Lake Michigan is so inviting in the summertime.

But Friday also brought a reminder of the lake's potential dangers. Not long after Chicago Park District lifeguards took their post for the first time this season, divers found a body while searching for 15...See More

A Texas teacher has been fired for an out of the box punishment she dished out to her class of unruly four-year-olds: she would shut them in a dark janitor's closet.

Telling the children that there were monsters inside that would eat them for misbehaving, she would close the door and keep her Varnett Charter School pre-kindergartners inside for five minutes each.

But when little Kelon Johnson-Chaney had his turn in the closet, he cried so hard he threw up - and his mother is outraged by what happened.

Mother Knows Best: Mother Kelicia Johnson-Chaney said the punishment was tantamount to torture, and pulled her son from the school
'You are taking a four-year-old and putting them in a dark closet. That’s like torture. That’s a torture even to an adult that is afraid of the dark. Who locks anybody in a closet?' angry mother Kelicia Johnson-Chaney said to KENS5.
The teacher and her aide have been fired.

'They used the monster in a closet as means of discipline and trying to correct behavior that is just unacceptable,' said Varnett Superintendent Dr Annette Cluff to Fox26.

Kelon said that the incident happened after the class read the book After School Monsters.

In the book, a little girl returns home from school to find a monster waiting inside her house to eat her, chasing her around the kitchen.

Reading is Believing: Kelon said that the incident happened after the class read the book After School Monsters

Punishment: Varnett Superintendent Dr Annette Cluff fired the teacher and her aide for
Eventually she stops running and faces him, saying he can't hurt her because she is 'strong inside.'

The teacher, evidently, used the story as inspiration.

'There was a monster and the monster was going to eat me,' Kelon said.

He told his parents that first she put one student inside the janitor's closet, with all the cleaning supplies, and Kelon and some other boys laughed.

Then the rest of them had their turn.

'Since I got in the monster closet, she should have got in the monster closet.'
Kelon Johnson-Chaney
'I don’t like going in the closet,' Kelon said to KENS5. 'It is scary.'

Dr Cluff said she was also shocked by the treatment of the children.

'I'm a grandma, I'm a mother and I wouldn't allow that kind of behavior with my own child,' Dr Cluff said.

Mrs Johnson-Chaney said she was happy the teacher was penalized, but she's not going to let her child anywhere near the school again.

Little Kelon, however, thinks she should be punished differently.

'Since I got in the monster closet,' Kelon said, 'she should have got in the monster closet.

Tanya Farrington was 14 years old when she went missing on March 22nd 1979 from her family home in Crows Nest NSW. She told her family she was going to bed but instead she snuck out of the house. We don't know where she went - was she heading to a disco at Manly? A milk bar at Neutral Bay? Did she wait at the bus stop? Hitchhike? Who did she meet that night? If it's the last thing I do I will find out what happened to this girl. If you know, 1800 333 000.

Missing From Colorado City, Texas Since 5/23/2012 Please Help Find Brittany Hil...l and Khloe Wheeler

Mitchell County authorities are requesting the public's help in trying to locate three people — including a toddler — last seen Wednesday in Colorado City.

Brittany Brianne Hill, 23, and her daughter Khloe Makinley Wheeler, 2 — both Snyder residents — were last seen while visiting Rosendo Gonzales, Hill's 21-year-old boyfriend, around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

On Friday afternoon, law enforcement officials issued a news release that indicated the couple had a tumultuous relationship.

Earlier in the week, Hill was treated at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder for a concussion and also received five stitches on her upper lip, according to the news release. Hill did not report her injuries as an assault, authorities said, but rather as injuries related to a fall.

"Brittany has a history of drug abuse, but it is unknown if she is under the influence at this time," the release said. "Rosendo Gonzales has a history of violence toward Brittany, and the couple has a history of domestic disputes between them."

Hill is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, with dark red and black hair. She is reported to have a piercing in her nose and lip and a leopard-print tattoo on her right shoulder. Khloe has brown hair and brown eyes, officials said.

Gonzalesis described as 6 feet 1, 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Hill is reported to have last been seen at the home of Gonzales' motherat 1078 Oak St. in Colorado City, according to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs.

Hill's license plate number is NVY178, authorities said, adding that the SUV has two decals on the back — a cross and one that says "In Memory of Jessica Castillo."

"At this point, we don't know if they're in any danger. We don't have any direct knowledge about that," said Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke.

Ashley Cordes, Hill's sister, said on her Facebook page Friday that she wanted to thank every single person who has prayed for her family.

"We thank you all and are still continuing our search for her," she said. "Any little piece of information at this point could help us. So even if it's something as little as 'I heard from so and so,' it could help us find them."

Anyone with information on the case can call the Colorado City Police Department at 325-728-3161 or the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office at 325-728-5261.
